All Eyes On Clint Bowyer- Will He Or Won’t He Join RFR?August 31, 2011 No Comments
Usually with this type of story I would go ahead and proclaim this as a ‘rumor’, but that’s not the case this time.
In a recent interview with Claire B. Lang during her show “Dialed In” on SIRIUSXM Radio, Jack Roush admitted Clint Bowyer has been on his “radar for a very long time.” But how would all of this work out?
Immediately, the first thought that came to my head was ‘how could that be possible with RFR (Roush Fenway Racing) already having four NSCS race teams?’ My explanation- It could happen in more ways than one.
Probably the best option Roush would have is to get Richard Petty Motorsports to sign Bowyer to a deal, this would allow a steady process of moving Bowyer to RFR if one of the current RFR drivers were to move to another race team. Granted RPM is not Roush Fenway Racing, but isn’t the legendary Richard Petty getting support from the Roush camp?
Another possibility- Getting rid of David Ragan. To many Roush Fenway fans, this would be devastating news, especially since Roush has ‘groomed’ Ragan into a race winner, so why would he just give up on Ragan?
It’s not so much of ‘giving up’ as it is giving Bowyer a chance in the No. 6 car. In Wednesday night’s interview Roush said Bowyer was “a lot out of the Carl Edwards mold”, could you imagine if Bowyer would become just as efficient as Edwards? Roush Fenway could quite possibly become the next generation of Hendrick Motorsports.
When Roush was asked about having a spot available at Roush Fenway Racing, Roush said, “I don’t know what kind of sponsor lineup I will have for next year. It’s just not clear. It’s not clear the way all of our programs are going to shake down.”
Having said all of that, what do you think about Bowyer possibly making the move to RFR at the end of this season?Tags: Carl Edwards, Clint Bowyer, David Ragan, Jack Roush, NASCAR, NSCS, Richard Petty Motorsports, Roush Fenway RacingCoverage
