Carl Edwards Prevails Through Rain and Green White Checkers to Win at Dover

Carl Edwards took the checkered flag on Saturday as a late race wreck unraveled behind him, earning him his third win of the 2011 Nationwide series and the 32nd overall.

Edwards had to battle off Joey Logano on not one, but two green-white-checkered restarts to earn the victory. Logano had the edge over Edwards coming out of turn four, coming to the white flag.

Edwards didn’t make contact with Logano, but his presence got Logano loose.

I think just Carl (Edwards) coming up took the air off me enough to make me loose. I just think (watching a replay of the accident) — see I think he’s coming up the track.” Logano said.

“Those shark fins they got them — you get a car underneath you right about that point you feel the car starting to get loose.”

Logano bounced off the outside wall and sent him directly into Clint Bowyer, leading to a multicar wreck which sent Bowyer’s car airborne.

Edwards passed on his usual victory routine to check on Logano and apologize.

“I really thought I got into (Logano). I saw him wiggle and I wasn’t sure I touched him or not,” Edwards said. “I would much rather have had a good, solid race.”

A crew member from Bowyer’s team was struck by a flying spring and was sent to a local hospital for further evaluation. All drivers involved were checked and released from the infield care center.

Kyle Busch, who was also involved in the last lap wreck, limped his Toyota Camry across the line to finish in second.

“I’m just glad everyone is alright. We salvaged the day with our MAC Tools Camry. Unfortunately, it wasn’t our best, but maybe we can get the (win) in Charlotte.”

Busch continues his quest to tie Mark Martin for the most all-time wins in the Nationwide series.

Reed Sorenson was the highest finish Nationwide regular in 3rd, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and David Reutimann rounded out the top five.

New points leader, Elliott Sadler just finished outside of the top five (sixth),despite a late race penalty for speeding on pit road.
