Chicagoland Speedway NCWTS Starting Lineup: Steve Arpin Wheels His Way to First Career Pole, Sets New Track Record

Todd Bodine’s track record, which he set last year, was shattered in Friday’s qualifying session at Chicagoland Speedway. 13 drivers broke the track record, led by the charge of Turner Motorsport’s Steve Arpin.

Arpin, in only his fifth NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race, earned his first career pole with a lap of 30.768 seconds, 175.507 mph. Kevin Harvick will fill the front row Friday night, followed by Parker Kligerman, Ricky Carmichael and Austin Dillon.

“I was just looking at this little monitor here and saw me and Kevin Harvick together, that’s pretty cool. To be starting beside a guy like that,” said Arpin in an interview with SPEED following his qualifying run. “This truck has been awesome all day long, right when we unloaded it off the truck. Our guys have been working their butts off. We struggled a little bit the last couple races but we all worked together, got the truck a little better.

“I worked a lot on the simulators and studying footage and stuff, what I need to do to get better myself. It’s working so far, now we just need to make it go out there tonight and get a good run.”

Series points leader James Buescher, Cole Whitt, Todd Bodine, Miguel Paludo and Matt Crafton rounded out the top 10.
