Marcos Ambrose drove his Ford Fusion to the front of the field on multiple occasions, overcoming several setbacks and eventually pulling away from Indycar star Alex Tagliani to win in Montreal.

Ambrose, who earned his first career Sprint Cup Series win last week at Watkins Glen, took over the lead from Tagliani with 10 to go and held on through one last restart to earn his fourth career Nationwide Series win. Trailing Ambrose and Tagliani were Michael McDowell, Steve Wallace and J.R. Fitzpatrick.

Ambrose proved why he is regarded as NASCAR’s top road course talent on Saturday by pushing his way through the field to eventually battle hometown hero Jacques Villeneuve for the lead. A restart on Lap 45 set Villeneuve and Ambrose side-by-side going into turn one.

Villeneuve overshot turn one but immediately returned to the track by driving straight into the side of Ambrose’s Ford Fusion, turning himself and Ambrose around. Both drivers returned to the racing surface but it wasn’t long before Ambrose retaliated by dumping Villeneuve later in the lap.

“On the restart with Marcos (Ambrose), I got caught sleeping,” said Villeneuve. “Instead of leaning on him, I gave him too much room, ended up in the gray and lost control of the car. I should have been more aggressive. Our Dodge was very fast. It’s disappointing. We had the car to beat.”

Following the international dispute between the Aussie and Canadian, Ambrose quickly worked his way back towards the front as Villeneuve was forced to visit pit road for repairs, putting him two laps down and negating any chances of a win.

Ron Fellows and Robby Gordon were each in contention for a win, each leading laps throughout the day. Slight contact with Tagliani late in the race ended in a blown engine for Gordon and a 31st place finish. Fellows’ pit strategy backfired as he was forced to hit pit road with only 15 to go, relegating him to an 11th place finish.

Danica Patrick’s NASCAR road course debut went sour as she began to experience brake issues throughout the race. At one point, an extended pit stop was needed to replenish the brake system. Patrick finished 24th.
