Hornaday Wins at Texas; Sauter Settles for 22nd Place Finish After Illegal Lane Change

June 10, 2011 No Comments

The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series was at Texas Motor Speedway this weekend as a standalone event, eliminating all Sprint Cup drivers from the race. Four-time NCWTS champion, Ron Hornaday was able to capitalize and take home his first victory of the 2011 season.

Hornaday restarted second on the only attempt at a green-white-checkered finish, with Johnny Sauter leading the field to green from the outside lane. Sauter jumped past Hornaday as the green flag was waved, but made an illegal move which proved detrimental to his chances at a second victory of the 2011 season.

Sauter transferred from the outside lane to the middle lane, just in front of Hornaday, earning him the black flag and a 22nd place finish. David Ragan was the most recent victim of this penalty, where he was forced to serve a pass through penalty in the Daytona 500 for changing lanes too soon.

“Good way to steal one,” Hornaday said. “I think we had a third- or a fifth-place truck, but it worked out for us. On that restart, he was the leader, but he kind of blocked, basically.”

Parker Kligerman kept his No. 29 truck out of a record setting amount of cautions and earned a career-best second place finish. David Mayhew was making a rare start in the No. 2 truck fielded by Kevin Harvick Incorporated, also earning a career-best finish in third. Brian Ickler, driving the No. 18 Kyle Busch Motorsport’s truck finished in fourth with Joey Coulter rounding out the top five.
