Martin Truex Jr. Thankful After Wreck at MartinsvilleApril 3, 2011 No Comments
Martin Truex Jr. began today’s race at Martinsville Speedway in the 18th position, but ended up finishing in 40th after a hard wreck on Lap 220 involving himself and Kasey Kahne.
The throttle stuck in Truex Jr.’s Toyota Camry, causing his car to veer right into the outside wall, collecting an unfortunate Kasey Kahne. After both cars came out a halt, Truex Jr. immediately ran over to check on Kahne. Both drivers were okay.
“Didn’t hurt at all. Unbelievable, isn’t it?” Truex Jr. said after being released from the infield care center.
The damage to the wall required the race to be red flagged for nearly 25 minutes for repairs.
“Thanks to NASCAR and all the guys who build the safer barriers and these race cars, they are unbelievable,” Truex Jr. said. “Ten years ago, I wouldn’t be standing here.”
Truex Jr. had been running strong all day, in and out of the top ten battling for position.
“Everything was fine and I went to let off (the brakes) to go into (turn) three and it stuck to the floor,” Truex Jr. said. “At that point, there’s nothing you can do. It happens so fast, there’s no way you can hit the kill switch or shut the thing off. Just lock up the brakes and you are just a passenger at that point.”
Here is the video from Sunday’s incident. Glad to see both drivers walk away from such a scary wreck.
