For the first time his NASCAR career, Nelson Piquet Jr. will start a race from the pole after he took the top spot in Saturday’s qualifying for the Good Sam Roadside Assistance 200 at Rockingham Speedway.

With a lap of  144.387 mph, Piquet held off the final 14 trucks behind him to put his Turner Motorsports Chevrolet on the pole, the second pole of the year for the Turner organization.

The pole also marks the second time the former Formula One driver will start inside the top-10 in the 2012 season.

Starting next to Piquet will be the driver of the No.5 Ford, Paulie Harraka.

Much like Piquet, Harraka set his fast time towards the middle of the 41 truck session and held of the challenges from some of the series’ “heavy hitters”.

Series points leader and Daytona 250 winner, John King, will start Sunday’s 200 mile race from the twenty-fifth position. His teammate, Timothy Peters, put his Red Horse Racing Toyota in the third position, the highest qualifying Toyota.

Rounding out the top-five starting positions for the race will be Jason Leffler and Brad Sweet.

Sweet will however turn over his ride to Kasey Kahne who will make the trip from Texas Motor Speedway to Rockingham to compete in the event.

Clay Greenfield, Jennifer Jo Cobb, Chris Fontaine, Wes Burton, Brian Weber all failed to qualify for the race.
