Analysis: Whenever Kyle Busch or Kevin Harvick make an appearance in the Truck Series, you know they are going to be among the main contenders for the win. When both are in the field, watch out! There may be no one better at the Texas Motor Speedway than Todd Bodine. Ever since his series debut, Texas has been a great track to say the least for ‘The Onion’. With six career wins at ‘The Great American Speedway’ Bodine could very well pick up his first victory of the season Friday night in Texas. The stars of the June race, Ron Hornaday and Johnny Sauter, are back looking to do damage again. Hornaday is the all-time laps led leader with 681. That one coming when Sauter was shown the black flag coming to what should have been the checkers, but a lane change penalty on the races final restart forced the dominant truck of Sauter back to the twenty-second position.
There was a point in time when Brendan Gaughan was the master of the Texas Motor Speedway. Gaughan won his first NCWTS race at Texas back in 2002, and went on a tare. Winning the next three races consecutively. Looking to rekindle some lost magic, Gaughan could very well be a sleeper this weekend.
Whenever Nelson Piquet Jr. returns to a track, he always seems to improve on past results. Piquet comes back to the Texas Motor Speedway for not the second time, but the third. The fast 1.5 milers have been very kind to Piquet over the course of the season, earning his best career finishes at them. Don’t be shocked to see the #8 in victory lane Friday night.
-23 down, 2 to go in the fight for the 2011 NASCAR Camping World Truck championship
- Austin Dillon leads the season standings with an 11 point lead over Texas native, James Buescher. Ron Hornaday and Johnny Sauter sit tied for third, 15-points back.
-Last time we were at Texas, Sauter had the field covered, leading the most laps on the night. However, Sauter’s night went ‘down the drain’ when he was penalized for an early lane change on the final restart of the night. Hornaday went on to win the race that night.
-While the main focus is on the championship race, there is in fact a tight rookie battle going on. Cole Whitt, Joey Coulter and Nelson PIquet Jr are all in the mix, with Parker Kligerman also able to stir things up. Texas will be a major hurdle for the rookies as each one of them are strong on the 1.5-mile ovals.
-For the first time, defending series champion Todd Bodine may go win less in the NCWTS for a season. Ever since he began competing full-time in the series, Bodine as claimed at least one victory per season. With only two races left (Texas and Homestead), Bodine looks to Texas as a prime place to claim victory as he has a record six victories at the track.
