Carl Edwards will lead the field to the green flag on Sunday for the Ford 400 from Homestead-Miami Speedway, with hopes of winning his first career NASCAR Sprint Cup Series championship.

Saturday afternoon’s pole was the third pole and 25th top-10 start in the 2011 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season for Edwards.

“My guys did a great job today, and that’s what it’s about, is being able to come here and perform the best we can and not leave anything on the table,” said Edwards.

Edwards turned a fast lap of 30.775 seconds (175.467 mph), while Martin Truex will lineup second with a fast lap of 30.890 seconds (174.808 mph).

Edwards, who has now won two poles at Homestead-Miami Speedway in just eight races, joins Kurt Busch, Jimmie Johnson and Kasey Kahne atop the all-time poles list at Homestead.

Rounding out the top-10: Kasey Kahne, Kurt Busch, Brad Keselowski, Matt Kenseth, Jeff Gordon, Greg Biffle, Jimmie Johnson and Denny Hamlin.

Tony Stewart will start from the fifteenth position, but don’t be alarmed because there will be plenty of time to make up that ground.

Needless to say, Sunday’s Ford 400 is shaping up to be a thriller, as it will propel us into the off-season before getting ready for Daytona the first of the year.
