NSCS: Erwin Out As Biffle’s Crew ChiefJuly 11, 2011 No Comments
Greg Erwin has been replaced as Greg Biffle’s crew chief on Roush Fenway Racing’s No. 16 3M Ford Fusion, sources confirmed Monday. According to FOXSports.com, NASCAR Nationwide Series crew chief Matt Puccia will replace Erwin this week at New Hampshire.
It’s hard to believe but with only eight races left to be raced in the 2011 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series regular season, Biffle is the only Roush Fenway driver not in the Chase. But there is still a chance he can make the Chase, especially if performance picks up because of this crew chief change.
Erwin and Biffle had worked together since May of 2007. Biffle finished sixth in points last year, seventh in 2009, and third in 2008.
Biffle is winless, with just one top five and five top 10s, not what team owner Jack Roush was looking for when he signed Biffle, 41, to a long-term contract extension in April.
The 16 team is looking for some momentum as we move along the “Road to Richmond”, this could be the very thing that this RFR team needs, some fresh blood.
