It was Roush Fenway Racing capturing the first three starting spots at Texas Motor Speedway, and it was Greg Biffle, with a qualifying lap speed of  193.736 mph, winning the NSCS AAA Texas 500 Coors Light Pole Award.

Today’s qualifying efforts earned Biffle his ninth series career pole and his first career series pole at Texas Motor Speedway.

“We run good here all the time,” said Biffle. “That gives me a lot of confidence going into this weekend. The car was really fast right off the truck.”

Biffle will be joined alongside David Ragan (193.437mph), followed by Matt Kenseth (193.659mph) starting from third, Paul Menard (193.437mph) fourth and last week’s race winner, Tony Stewart (193.257mph) will start fifth.

Rounding out the top-10 starting positions: David Reutimann starting sixth, Carl Edwards, Brad Keselowski, Kasey Kahne and Regan Smith.

Edwards, who is contending for his first career NASCAR Sprint Cup Series championship, said he got ‘too conservative coming to the green’, something this minor shouldn’t be alarming to Edwards’ fan-base.

“I was probably too timid through (Turns) 3 and 4, but it is a good starting spot,” said Edwards. “We focused hard on qualifying here. We had an opportunity to go out there and sit on the pole. … There couldn’t be a better track for us. This is a fun one.”

As Roush Fenway Racing hopes to sweep both NSCS Texas races this year, Carl Edwards hopes to gain some ‘points’ room over Tony Stewart, who is currently sitting second in the point standings.
