Rick Hendrick is still searching for his team’s 200th career NASCAR win, and on Sunday, Hendrick driver Kasey Kahne will try and make that happen. Kahne who just came to Hendrick’s team this year has qualified for the pole for this Sunday’s Goody’s Fast Relief 500 at Martinsville.

With a lap of 97.128 MPH/ 19.50 seconds, Kahne was the fastest of all the 43 cars that will start on Sunday. Starting next to Kahne will be Kevin Harvick.

Kahne edged Harvick for the pole by just .01 seconds.

“I’ve qualified decent here, never on pole,” Kahne said to SPEED Channel reporters after his two qualifying laps. “Solid qualifying day.”

Starting behind Kahne will be a pair of Toyota’s of Denny Hamlin and Clint Bowyer.

Brad Keselowski will start seventh and was the fastest Dodge in qualifying. Marcos Ambrose, who qualified in 12th, is the highest starting Ford in Sunday’s race.

Even though this is Kahne’s first pole at the half mile track in Virginia, Hendricks drivers have done very well here in the past, capturing 18 wins.

This is the second pole for Kahne this season, he was previously on pole for Las Vegas. Kahne is the first repeat pole winner of the young 2012 season.

The last time a Martinsville race was won from the pole was in 2010 when Denny Hamlin won the fall race from the pole.

After qualifying, the No. 37 car of Tony Raines failed post race inspection, because of that he and his car were disqualified from the race and put the No. 49 of J.J. Yeley into Sunday’s race.

Scott Speed and Mike Bliss also failed to make the race on Sunday.
