Matt Kenseth, who is not known as a ‘great’ qualifier, has won the pole for Sunday’s Geico 400 from the Chicagoland Speedway.

Kenseth only had four career NASCAR Sprint Cup Series poles heading into this season, but today marked his sixth, as he already won another pole earlier this season at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

The Wisconsin native, turned a fast lap of 29.469 seconds, with a high speed of 183. 243 miles per hour.

“It was a great lap,” Kenseth said. “I really like how our car drove in qualifying trim. For me to qualify that good, you know my car is pretty fast.”

Paul Menard, another Wisconsin native, will line up second in the Geico 400. Menard had a fast lap of 29.488 seconds, just shy of winning his first career pole at Chicagoland.

Other drivers who finished inside the top-five were Kurt Busch, Ryan Newman and Carl Edwards.

As we are set to begin our first Chase race Sunday, all eyes will be on the ‘treasured 12′ , as they will be attempting to dethrone the five-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Champion, Jimmie Johnson.

Chasers in qualifying: 1- Matt Kenseth, 3- Kurt Busch, 4- Ryan Newman, 5- Carl Edwards, 6- Brad Keselowski, 9- Kyle Busch, 12- Jimmie Johnson, 19- Dale Earnhardt Jr., 23- Jeff Gordon, 26- Tony Stewart, 27- Denny Hamlin, 30- Kevin Harvick.
