Carl Edwards captured the pole for Friday night’s Nationwide race in Richmond with a lap of 124.844 mph. The pole is Edwards fourth of the year and 25th of his Nationwide Series career.

Denny Hamlin, driver of the No. 20 for Joe Gibbs Racing was setting a pace which would have knocked Edwards off the pole but found himself sitting in 11th after brushing the wall exiting turn four.

Sam Hornish Jr. will start on the front row with Edwards after qualifying second – the best qualifying run of his Nationwide career. Brian Scott, Aric Almirola and Justin Allgaier round out the top five.

There is no sign of car manufacturer dominance in the Nationwide series, with the top four qualifying positions being hosted by Ford, Dodge, Toyota and Chevrolet.

Notables who will not be in Friday’s Nationwide race: Trevor Bayne, Kyle Busch, Joey Logano
