Ricky Stenhouse Jr. won the pole for Saturday’s Top Gear 300 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Stenhouse Jr.’s third career Nationwide pole comes just one week after his first career win at Iowa Speedway and just days after the announcement of his first career Sprint Cup start.

Stenhouse Jr. ran a lap of 186.994 mph (28.878) to knock Kevin Harvick off of the provisional pole. Harvick was the only other drive to run a lap under 29 seconds (28.901) to qualify second for Saturday’s race.

Stenhouse Jr. survived a late push from Roush Fenway Racing teammate, Matt Kenseth who is filling in for Trevor Bayne in the No. 16. Kenseth was the last driver to qualify and his 29.056 second lap was only good enough for third. Kyle Busch qualified in fourth and Carl Edwards qualified fifth, putting all three Fastenal Ford Mustangs in the top five.

Reed Sorenson, Sam Hornish Jr., Aric Almirola, Kasey Kahne and Elliott Sadler round out the top ten. Two drivers failed to make Saturday’s race: Chase Miller, Charles Lewandoski.
