New Hampshire Preview:
In today’s NASCAR schedule filled with cookie-cutter tracks, New Hampshire stands alone.
It’s a flat track, with variable banking through the corners and barely any banking on the straights (1 degree). Did I mention the length is an odd 1.058 miles?
According to NASCAR’s statistical purposes, New Hampshire is declared as a “superspeedway”, but in fact this track is the complete opposite. When comparing New Hampshire to other tracks, many associate Martinsville with NHMS.
“New Hampshire has relatively long straightaways and tight corners,” said Paul Menard. “One way to describe it is that it’s kind of like a large Martinsville. You have to get as much gas as you can from the center and off the exit to get down the straightaways.”
When Kenseth was asked what he thought about New Hampshire, his answer was very similar- “New Hampshire is a lot like a larger Martinsville when I think of a track to compare it to,” he said. “Your car needs to turn really well at Loudon, and that seems to be the biggest thing I always fight – getting the car to turn in the middle of the corner.”
The “Road to Richmond” continues this week, which will only add to the excitement associated with New Hampshire.
Fantasy Racing Picks:
Target: Jimmie Johnson, Tony Stewart, Clint Bowyer, Denny Hamlin, Jeff Gordon, and Kurt Busch
Avoid: Matt Kenseth, Kasey Kahne, and Jamie McMurray
Analysis: Stewart is fantastic at any flat track. Bowyer has two career wins. Busch has an average finish of 6.2 the past five races.
Bargain: Brad Keselowski won the pole for the 2010 Chase race, and he finished sixth in ’09 in the No. 09 car. Marcos Ambrose had a career-best 13th-place run here in June 2010.
